Gretchen Lieberum
With new musical ideas and creative interpretations of old Jazz standards, Gretchen Lieberum reminds both old jazz lovers and new trip-hop fans how artists can still expand the boundaries of style. In the late 1990s, Lieberums debut album 3 AM, produced by acclaimed musician Greg Poreé (who has worked with such artists as Stevie Wonder and Cassandra Wilson), gained enormous popularity and her songs were downloaded by millions on Mp3.com. Several songs including 3 AM and Angel Eyes regularly topped the Mp3.com charts in jazz, acid jazz and soul categories. As a Staff Recommended artist at Hear Music and a Staff Favorite artist at iTunes, Lieberum's music began to trickle down to the masses. Songs from Brand New Morning began topping the charts on Rhapsody.com, where her music charted side by side with Coldplay and Eminem. In addition several songs from Brand New Morning appeared on television and in movies including the WB hit, Felicity, and on the soundtrack of the Sundance award-winning Mean Creek. Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Lieberum was raised in Berkeley, where her passion for jazz, soul and urban beats developed within the Bay Area music scene. Her current album, Siren Songs, was produced by John Gold (Eastside Shake) and his partner Sam Music.
